Matamoro

Painter whose training began at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Complutense University of Madrid, where he earned his degree in Painting and Printmaking. He began exhibiting his work at a very young age, in 1984, at the Caixavigo gallery in Vilagarcía de Arousa. From 1985 onwards, he became associated with the Atlántica group, marking a decisive stage in his career.

He has held solo and group exhibitions in numerous cities across Spain and Europe, as well as in institutions such as the CGAC and the Museum of Contemporary Art of La Spezia. He has also participated in art fairs such as ARCO, Estampa, and Just Madrid, and in group shows at CGAC and the National Sculpture Museum in Valladolid. Among his recent exhibitions are A Mirada Acesa (MARCO, Vigo, 2021), El Peso de la Luz (Trinta, 2022), and UVNT Art Fair (2023).

Regarding awards and grants, he received the "Xóvenes Valores" grant from the Pontevedra Provincial Council and participated in the Contemporary Art Workshops at the Círculo de Bellas Artes, as well as the Colmeiro grant and others, such as the Joint Hispanic-American Committee grant in New York (1988) and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, History and Archaeology in Rome (1990). His work was acquired at the 1st Unión Fenosa Exhibition and he was awarded the second medal at the Pontevedra Biennial in 1990.

His painting is entirely informalist, with dreamlike references and abstract figures reminiscent of Odilon Redon's style. Whimsical graphic elements, impossible objects set in idealized spaces, and harmonized stains characterize his unique visual language. His work shows the influence of Minimal Art, with a dense and almost corporeal materiality. He is represented in institutional collections in both Galicia and Italy, establishing himself as one of the most significant artists of his generation.
