Thomas

Malik Thomas (b. 1995, Kent, UK) is a British visual artist of Iraqi descent, based between Amman and London. Working across painting and fiber art, he draws from his multicultural heritage and experiences in the Arab world to explore themes of memory, identity, and emotion.

His work centers on the male figure, often depicting intimate, introspective moments that blur the boundaries between personal history and fantasy. Rooted in the tradition of painting as veneration, his compositions evoke tenderness and vulnerability, forging deep emotional connections with the viewer.

Thomas’s gestural representations merge abstraction and symbolism, drawing inspiration from calligraphy and fiber-based traditions. His use of hand-dyed natural materials adds depth and texture, reflecting the ephemeral nature of memory and desire. Through layered imagery and tactile surfaces, he creates a visual language that speaks to both personal and collective experience.

Balancing the personal with the universal, Thomas’s work invites empathy and introspection. His distinctive approach transforms fiber art into a medium of emotional and symbolic expression, challenging the boundaries between materiality and meaning.
