Schuttenbeld

Hans Schuttenbeld is an enthusiastic artist with a profound interest in calligraphy. This brought him into studying graphic design at the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam, where he graduated in Autonomous Arts in 2015

He balances his time between making individual art pieces and  working in two art collectives and various interdisciplinary collaborations. With the “High on Type” collective, they received international recognition for their innovative stance on calligraphy and letter making.

Hans Schuttenbeld about his process:

“To me, painting is an act of wonder, where every single brushstroke colorfully celebrates presence, where the entire process embraces opportunity.

The sensitive brush, extension of my body, is translating a swirling inner world. Rhythmic sequences grow step by step, layered patterns emerge slowly.

This meditative form of painting offers space to transcend the rational mind, to connect with the subconscious. Here, calligraphy is a teacher on the value of attention, the power of repetition, and the fluidity of becoming, all attuned to space and time.

Within this psychedelic poetic reality, these paintings come to life. And now that the painting is painted, it invites you to go on a journey, together.”
