Nyrén
Jesper Nyrén, born in 1979 in Sala, Sweden, currently lives and works in Stockholm. He holds a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from the Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. Nyrén’s work has been exhibited extensively, primarily in Sweden and the Nordic countries, and is represented in numerous institutions, museums and collections. He has also completed several large scale permanent public art commissions.
Nyrén’s paintings investigate the physical and visual properties of paint and the ways in which they relate to memory, perception and temporality. Each painting is fundamentally based on an experience, whether of a landscape or of a particular light at a specific moment and place. From this starting point, Nyrén creates condensed paintings with carefully worked surfaces that oscillate between abstraction and figuration, between the determined and the indeterminate, between the direct and the suggested. Between painting as object and painting as metaphor.
