Haoxian
Kang Haoxian (b.1989, ShanDong China) is a Chinese contemporary artist currently based in Beijing, China. He graduated from the Animation Department at Central Academy of Fine Arts in 2013. Kang’s artistic language is infused with symbolism from popular culture, challenging the stereotypical opposition of elegance and vulgarity. Kang has attracted the attention from pioneers in fashion and leading trends with his detailed depiction of figures in embellished garments and elaborately adorned party settings. Through the artist’s unique perspectives and observation of his surroundings, along with his remarkable spray painting techniques, Kang’s works convey an atmosphere that sets in between living and detachment from life.
Kang’s inspiration often comes from his personal travel experience and mythological stories. Between 2018 and 2019, Kang visited Los Angeles twice, this experience immediately influenced his style ever since – portraying figures with diverse racial identities to discuss cultural hegemony. His recent artworks have shifted from early magical realism to a more narrative style. and the individual role in modern socialization over the globe.
