Soojin Choi (b. 1991), born and raised in South Korea, has been a US-based artist since 2010.
She earned her BFA from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2015 (Craft/Material Studies and Painting/Printmaking) and MFA in ceramics from Alfred University in 2018. Her residencies include Northern Clay Center, Minneapolis, MN; Red Lodge Clay Center, Red Lodge, MT; Archie Bray Foundation, Helena, MT; and currently The Clay Studio, Philadelphia, PA.
Choi's exhibitions span solo and group shows across the US and internationally, where she transforms objects, figures, and spaces into visual language via repetitive layering of flat and spatial surfaces. Human emotion, she explains, emerges from the interplay of people, space, and feeling—its ambivalence captured in unresolved moments through subtle expressions, body language, color, brushwork, and clay-built textures that blur dimensions.
