Vainionpää

Vickie Vainionpää makes paintings that integrate the logic of the machine with the human hand. Using generative and wearable technologies—including algorithms, eye-tracking, and virtual reality systems—she creates forms and compositions that are later translated into traditionally executed paintings on canvas. Operating between digital and physical environments, her work reflects the conditions of contemporary perception, in which experience is increasingly mediated by screens, software, and virtual space. Twisting tubular forms, blended brushwork, and smooth gradations of color produce abstractions that foreground the ever-evolving relationship between the human body and digital technology.

Vainionpää has participated in shows at The X Museum (Beijing, China) Galerie Perrotin (New York, USA) and The Margulies Warehouse (Miami, USA). Recent solo exhibitions include Metamorphoses at the historic site of The Museo Belvedere di San Leucio (Caserta, Italy). In 2026, she will mount her debut institutional exhibition, Soft Logic at The Gainesboro Modern Museum of Art (Tennessee, USA). In 2026 she will also be attending Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture (Maine, USA).
