Los Enamorados is pleased to present the first solo exhibition in Spain by Dutch artist Dirk Jensma (b. 1961, Balk, NL), coinciding with CAN Art. The show features a new series of paintings created specifically for this occasion.

Jensma’s journey into visual art began during his previous career as a freelance make-up artist in fashion photography. During his travels, he experimented with brushes and pigments on inanimate surfaces, which gradually led him to explore embroidery. Drawn to its tactile quality and confined structure, he developed a fascination with the grid—creating increasingly intricate, mathematically precise compositions. Over time, the artist moved away from textile as medium, translating the language of embroidery into large-scale paintings on wooden panels. Using ruler and pencil to construct detailed grids, his works evolved into mesmerizing patterns of straight lines and shifting colours—resembling hypnotic mazes that echo natural rhythms and the repetitive order of life.

For this exhibition, Jensma presents a new series of paintings that begin from a central square and evolve into circular compositions. Though each work is built entirely from straight lines, the circle’s visual dominance subtly overtakes the square—suggesting a quiet tension between structure and freedom, order and flow. As a Spanish friend once remarked upon seeing his work: “It is hard to find your freedom between the lines.” Jensma’s paintings embrace this paradox, reflecting a human urge to escape the grid while remaining forever shaped by its rhythm.

Los Enamorados is a boutique hideaway where vintage design, global treasures, and laid-back beach vibes come together in perfect harmony. On the ground floor, you’ll find a welcoming tea bar, restaurant, kitchen, salon/boutique, and a seaside terrace with a romantic garden. Upstairs, nine uniquely styled rooms await—each with dreamy double beds (no pea detectable), dimmable lights, and no TVs, but plenty of charm. Nearly everything you see is handpicked and for sale—from kimonos to ceramics, sunglasses to sofas—curated from around the world and local artisans. Our restaurant offers simple, delicious dishes made with local produce by Spanish chef Ignacio Muela Bonet. Enjoy yoga, massages, paddleboarding, horseback rides, or even diving at the school next door. We open from mid-April to the end of October, taking winter off to explore and recharge—though Pierre may surprise you.
