FLASHBACK by Phrank at Olas Gallery

A photography exhibition of Ibiza’s nightlife culture since 1999. Documenting the freedom of the night, the fun, the sexy and the iconic. The Ibiza that will long live in our memories.

Borni n 1973 in Düsseldorf, Germany, Frank Weyrauther—professionally known as Phrank—has spent more than two decades exploring the intersection of photography, design, and electronic music culture. His work captures nightlife not as a detached observer, but as an embedded participant within a global scene defined by transience, rhythm, and collective energy.

Phranlk’s creative journey began during his studies at the University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld, where he developed visual concepts for record labels and advertising agencies. His transition to photography emerged from a desire to capture the ephemeral atmospheres of nocturnal spaces—where light, sound, and emotion converge in fleeting yet powerful moments.

Since the late 1990s, Ibiza has served as a central hub for his work. His photographs have documented some of the island’s most iconic events—Cocoon, Circoloco, Defected, Manumission—and have been featured in international publications such as DJ Mag and Mixmag. Yet, it is often the quiet, unguarded moments—backstage interactions, subtle expressions, and the interplay of bodies and light—that form the emotional core of his imagery.

Phrank’s visual language blends documentary precision with emotional resonance, offering a raw and intimate portrait of nightlife as both cultural ritual and personal experience. Since 2007, he has also been the creative director and co-founder of Dub Magazine Ibiza, a visual platform dedicated to contemporary club and lifestyle culture.

His work can be understood as a living archive—one that oscillates between reality and illusion, presence and memory, sound and silence.
