Samuel Almansa will present a project at Hotel Blanco in Formentera as part of the OFF program of CAN Contemporary Art Now. An initiative that, since 2022, promotes the art of Balearic artists by holding exhibitions in venues on the Pittusan islands, mainly between Formentera and Ibiza.
“Heavy Little Things”.
This is Samuel Almansa's new project, a series of iron sculptures that explore the tension between playfulness and heaviness, between tenderness and structure. The works adopt forms that refer to toys, gestures or characters, but are made in solid metal, turning the language of the “cute” into something dense, physical and permanent. Through contradiction, Heavy Little Things invites the viewer to inhabit a space where the emotional and the material coexist without hierarchies. Each piece seems about to move or make mischief, but is stopped by its own weight. These “metallic paintings” capture moments of suspended energy: mischief frozen in form. The exhibition proposes a reflection on how the small, the tender or the seemingly frivolous can contain unexpected gravity. Sometimes, what weighs the most is not the iron, but the memory of what we thought was light.
