Public Art "Hashtag" by Stefan Brüggemann
16.06.2026
As part of its Public Art Program, CAN Art Fair Ibiza presents "Hashtag", a monumental sculpture by Stefan Brüggemann that will remain permanently on view at Sa Punta des Molí in Sant Antoni de Portmany. Conceived specifically for the island, the work invites residents and visitors to reflect on the relationship between local identity, digital culture and public space. Made of corten steel, the sculpture takes the form of a hashtag, one of the most recognizable signts of contemporary communication.
A symbol of location, categorization and virality in the digital environment, the hashtag is reinterpreted here at a monumental scale as a sculptural gesture of remarkable formal simplicity. Just as it connects images, places and experiences on social media, the sculpture functions as a physical meeting point that invites contemplation, photography and public participation. Positioned between nature, culture and tourism, the work proposes a reflection on how the image of Ibiza is constructed and projected within the global imagination today.
The installation constitutes the first permanent work of CAN Art Fair Ibiza’s Public Art Program and marks a milestone in the fair’s trajectory, becoming the first permanent public art project curated by CAN on the island. Developed in collaboration with the Ajuntament de Sant Antoni de Portmany, the intervention reaffirms the fair’s commitment to contemporary creation and to the integration of art into public space as a tool for dialogue with the territory.
