Public Art "Sky Blue" by Amalie Jakobsen

20.06 - 14.09.2026

As part of its Public Art Program, CAN Art Fair presents Sky Blue, a monumental sculpture by the Danish artist Amalie Jakobsen, which will be on view in Vara de Rey from June 20th to September 24th, inviting residents and visitors to experience contemporary art in the heart of the city.

The work belongs to Jakobsen’s Osculating Orbits series, a group of sculptures inspired by astronomical phenomena in which two orbits approach one another without ever crossing. Drawing from this idea, Jakobsen creates an open composition of elliptical forms that appear to move around one another, generating a constant sense of motion, balance and transformation.

Rising above the promenade, Sky Blue establishes a direct dialogue with the Mediterranean sky. Its blue hue reinforces the visual lightness of the piece and enhances the sensation that the sculpture is floating in space. Void, light and air become materials as important as the structure itself, transforming the surrounding environment and offering new perspectives on one of Ibiza’s most emblematic public spaces.

Far from functioning as a static object, the work invites viewers to walk around it, pass through it and discover how its forms shift in relation to the body, the gaze and the urban landscape. Between the cosmic and the human, Sky Blue reflects on proximity, attraction and the invisible forces that connect people, places and trajectories.

With this intervention, CAN Art Fair Ibiza extends its program beyond the fairgrounds and reaffirms its commitment to contemporary creation in the public realm. The presentation of Sky Blue is organized in collaboration with Future Gallery.
