Francesc Rosselló (b. 1994, Mallorca) is an artist based in Mallorca, Spain. He studied Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona between 2012 and 2016. Rosselló’s luminous and bold work is deeply influenced by the fact that he is color-blind. Counterintuitively, this has led to an obsession with color; his graphic and forceful compositions seem to vibrate with intensity.
Influenced by the language of illustration, as well as comics and manga, his works tell fantastical stories in fragmentary form, suggesting to the viewer the before and after that might have led to each scene. Working primarily with acrylic on canvas, the depicted landscapes—whether urban or natural—often take center stage. In a distinctive manner, he intertwines settings and figures to evoke fleeting moments in time, shaped to a great extent by the environments in which they unfold.
His work also reveals a strong fascination with the history of painting. By incorporating classical references such as busts and columns, he plays with motifs from the Renaissance and later periods. Likewise, his subject matter often addresses timeless human concerns, such as the mythological idea of humankind in nature, alluding to the Enlightenment notion of the sublime while situating it within a contemporary context.
