Folkert

De Jong

Folkert de Jong  is one of the most internationally renowned Dutch artists of his generation. His work reflects a multitude of references to conflict, ideology and even the fragility of the human being. His monumental sculptural installations represent the grotesque aspect of human comedy, associated with the distorted, fantastic or strange. Cultural symbols and (historical) figures are transformed into unsettling scenes through which the artist reinvestigates existing narratives.

Some of the prizes received are the Den Haag Sculpture Orange Award in Amsterdam and the Prix de Rome in sculpture. He has had exhibitions at important centers such as MUDAM (Luxembourg), Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Mackintosh Museum (Glasgow), Portland Art Museum (USA). His work also forms part of collections such as Rattan Chadha, Deste Foundation (Athens) Groninger Museum (Groningen), Rabo Art Collection (Utrecht), Saatchi Collection (London), Museum of Contemporary Art (Los Angeles) and the Margulies Art Collection at the Warehouse (Miami), among others.
