With hammer blows and fire, Agustín Esteso transforms iron with the skill inherited from his family of artisan blacksmiths, giving life to contemporary sculpture rooted in the tradition of hand forging. In the family workshop, guided by his father’s experience, itself passed down from his grandfather, Agustín shapes and gives volume to each piece, fusing craft and creativity.

His “Big Peanut”, installed in Plaza Pedro Zerolo in Madrid, rises like a totem in homage to the Valencian peanut, an emblematic product of his homeland. Emerging organically from the forms he has developed in recent years, the work reflects the dialogue between tradition and contemporary artistic exploration that lies at the core of his practice.

“Working with iron is a challenge. I see it as a game in which the opponent is the material itself. I aim for a result, but the material takes me where it wants,” the artist explains.
