Christian Henkel

(* 1976 in Rudolstadt Germany, works and lives in Berlin)

Christian Henkel’s artistic practice is rooted in an exploration of lines, forms, and spatial relationships. Working between sculpture, painting, and architecture, he develops constructed and deconstructed forms that reflect architectural thinking and processes. His approach draws on influences ranging from Constructivism and Modernism to abstract colour field painting.

Henkel treats sculpture as a site for pictorial ideas and painting as something that can be transferred onto the surfaces of objects. Material, form, and colour converge in subtle constellations that reveal their precision and clarity within the exhibition space. While his sculptural forms are marked by a recognisable simplicity, his precise and direct use of colour emphasises the individuality of each work. The resulting spatial compositions unfold between painting and sculpture, expanding into three-dimensional painterly installations.
