Juan

de Morenilla

Juan de Morenilla holds a degree in Fine Arts from the Universitat Politècnica de València, the city where he currently lives and works. His practice is built around a universe that embraces the absurd as a way of life, stepping away from speed, utility and productive logic in order to open up a space where the realm of feeling can break its own balance.

His paintings, which engage with the Flemish and Spanish Baroque tradition, are combined with an imaginary close to comics and animation, visual languages that have accompanied the artist since childhood. In this encounter between the classical and the popular, he explores the figure of the artist, as well as humour and play, as ways of accepting failure and softening its consequences.

Through scenes frozen at a precise instant, in contrast to the continuity of animation, he constructs a personal world that suspends time and invites us to inhabit the absurd from a place of intimacy and through the beauty of the painterly gesture.
