Sakai
Kenji Sakai (b.1996) is currently based in London after working in Tokyo. His practice centers around an interest in the transformations that occur when something intervenes in a space. The presence of a single element can destabilize the entire meaning or structure of a space, creating unexpected tensions and relationships. Sakai is drawn to these moments and explores them through painting and sculpture. In his work, three perspectives coexist: the observer who surveys the structure, the agent who intervenes and alters it, and the participant who is caught up in the change. These roles shift depending on his personal experiences and emotions. By exposing this instability, Sakai seeks to reconsider the relationship between the individual and the collective.
