Maciej Kość is an artist who studied at Edinburgh College of Art and is currently at the Royal College of Art in London. Working in mixed media, his practice combines references that range from classical painting, the Baroque and nineteenth century landscape traditions to postmodern maximalism, children’s illustration and imaginary fauna.

In his scenes, the sublime and the fantastical coexist, forming a distinctive imaginary in which animals, landscapes and narrative motifs unfold with contemporary theatricality. Kość weaves all these influences into a personal language that transforms literary and mythological sources into vibrant images, full of strangeness and an unsettling beauty.
