Mads
Lindberg
The starting point of Mads Lindbergâs (b. 1984) practice is found imagery, which he appropriates and reworks in order to question its material, formal, symbolic, and economic meanings.
For Lindberg, the act of transferring discarded paintingsâsourced from second-hand shops and flea marketsâinto his own works is a way of approaching the canvas from a distanced and analytical perspective. This enables him to develop a systematic investigation of painting as a medium, while simultaneously avoiding the implications associated with the mystical aura surrounding the idea of the âartist in action.â
In Lindbergâs view, every image has the right to exist beyond its aesthetic quality and, for this reason, should be part of a circular economy that transcends the parameters imposed by the hierarchical and elitist art market.
