FaĂșndez

Mara Faúndez (Paine, Chile) is a visual artist with a degree in Visual Arts from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Raised in the rural town of Paine, on the southern edge of Greater Santiago, she grew up surrounded by the colours and shapes of Central Chile’s landscape—an influence that continues to inform her work.

Her practice centers on building narratives from the anecdotal, often through female figures that appear as different versions of herself. For Faúndez, painting is a moment of personal confrontation. Everyday objects and diegetic text operate as a second image, layering meaning and expanding the work's psychological space.

Through painting, she explores themes of the intimate imaginary: love and heartbreak, the fleeting passion of infatuation, anxieties, and questions of identity and sexuality. These narratives offer a window into her inner world, filtered through fantasy. The scenes she constructs are driven by emotional states and situated in familiar settings drawn from her present or personal history. Her use of saturated colour and its interactions is central to her pictorial language.

Her debut solo exhibition, Ayer y Hoy, presented by Isabel Croxatto Galería in 2023, received critical acclaim and placed her work in institutional and private collections in Chile, the United States, Canada, Germany, Madrid, Türkiye, and Australia.

Mara Faúndez lives and works in Santiago, Chile.
