Rod
Ana Rod creates evocative biomorphic ceramic sculptures, filled with echoes and allusions to the natural world and to the behaviour of matter, drawing equally on observations at both macroscopic and microscopic scales. In both her smaller pieces and her installations, she moves fluidly between the figurative and the abstract, the unsettling and the familiar. The connection between body and mind (that is, between the sensory and the intellectual), long dismissed in the Western world, is reclaimed in her work. Through her organically shaped sculptures, Ana Rod seeks to connect her practice with a sense of contemplative expression and interaction with the natural world, understood as a complex, deeply interwoven whole.
“My work alludes to a state prior to the concretion of matter, a space where possibilities are infinite and where nature reinvents itself.
At first glance, the sensory dimension appeals to us, triggering elements of our collective imaginary: small sparks that unleash subconscious stimuli and generate resonance.
On a deeper level, by fusing references to organic elements, modular structures and concepts such as entropy or potentiality, I reflect on the random and contingent nature of our own existence, seeking a connection with primordial nature and self-awareness.”
