Chavis Mármol

Chavis

Mármol

Like many semi-domesticated primates raised in a lower–middle-class environment, he studied a degree in Visual Arts at the Autonomous University of the State of Hidalgo, later completing a Master’s in Visual Arts at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), and was rejected three consecutive times from the SOMA Educational Program.

With a career spanning a little over ten years, he has participated in various national and international exhibitions and has received grants and awards, although his true talents have been developed directly in the studio. His ability to solve technical problems, combined with his skilled use of tools and extensive knowledge of materials, has allowed him to produce complex, playful, and critical artworks that respond to the social, political, and economic context of our time. In this sense, more than being a painter, sculptor, or draftsman, his work consists of crafting cocktails of ideas that allow him to comment on a present that is both complex and devoid of clear meaning.
